I am runnng Windows 2000 professional with service pak 5. Lately, I have been
seeing a problem where upon calling a program the computer locks up. Task
Manager shows me there is almost no activity, even after I try to unstick the
hangup
by closing the offending application. There is also a similar problem on shut
down,
where I need to do a cold boot to get it to shut down. I have run the most
recent
Norton Anti-Virus software scan, but nothing could be found. I am also checking

all incoming traffic with AVG anti-virus software. I tried running Spyware, and
it
kept hanging in the same spot, about 13 % into it's scan. At this point, I
don't know
if it's a hardware of software causing this problem.

It would be a good idea to name the offending application
and to check its FAQs. It is likely that other users have had
the same problem, in which case you would find lots of
references to it on Google.
