Hello,
I'm rather staggered at this problem i have after trying SP3 on XP Home
Edition. I really don't want to do a system restore unless it's completely
nessessary as i have installed software and done alot since then. What
happens is i decided to install XP SP3 after re-installing XP w/ SP2 just to
have all the updates and patches to hand and done. I then download all my
anti virus etc. and set everything up to how it was.
Couple weeks have gone by and Windows Messenger gets rather tedious and i
forgot to get Windows Live Mail and Messenger etc. so i went and got Windows
Live Installer. I select, Messenger, Mail and the picture viewer. They all
download 100% and start to install... 1 error. 2 error. 3 error. None of them
install, click the help link to go to Microsofts help and support on Live but
no good.
Here is the error message in Event Viewer:
{START QUOTE}The description for Event ID ( 5000 ) in Source (
WindowsLiveSetup ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the
necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from
a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve
this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information
is part of the event: wlsetupdiagnostic, windows live messenger,
8.5.1302.1018, oninstallend_ 0x80004002, 12.0.1471.1025, NIL, NIL, NIL, NIL,
NIL, NIL.{END QUOTE}
So i tried to install MSN Live Messenger 8.5 from an individual installer,
but it loads the installer and then just does nothing. No dialogue showsup
with the usual "Welcome to {BLAH BLAH} Installer!" then you go through the
process on installing it. Nothing shows.
Is there a problem with Windows Live applications and SP3 at the moment? I
haven't tried WMP 11 just yet but i haven't heard/read anyone having a
problem with that.
Thanks for any help.
