Just installed Windows Vista RC1 on a brand new Dell PC.

However Windows Live Messenger refuses to sign in. Yahoo messenger has
signed in fine and i have a working connection to the network / internet as i
have been using Outlook (Windows SBS 2003 Network with Exchange). I am using
the computer to access this help page so that all seems fine.

However it comes back with things like...the service is down or the wrong
username and password was entered. Checking the MSN Service status revealed
that everything was ok at Microsoft.

Any help getting Live Messenger connected?

Chris

I came across an issue with Windows Live Messenger whereby it continually
attempted to log in. This is a known (from the Live Messenger forums)
problem with the beta. The procedure below solved my problem with messenger.

1. Click on Start and Run and type in REGEDIT and hit Enter.

2. In the registry editor, click on “HKEY_CURRENT_USERâ€, followed by
“Softwareâ€, followed by “Microsoftâ€, followed by “MSNMessengerâ€, and followed
by “Policiesâ€.

3. Delete the “Policies†folder.

4. Restart your machine.

5. Sign into Messenger again.

Hope this helps.

Hi Andrew.

I looked in the registry and the folder "Policies" doesn't exist under the
MSNMessenger folder.

The only folders in there are:

"PerPassportSettings" and "RetailDbgZones".

Any ideas?
