Windows Live Messenger will be made available to the public in 8 days,
Friday 16th June 2006. The successor to MSN Messenger 7.5, Windows Live
Messenger 8 is the first edition of the Messenger brand to be released under
the new 'Windows Live' moniker.

Windows Live represents Microsoft's biggest push into the
Software-as-a-Service market. Windows Live Messenger is the first software
package to be released out of beta in the Windows Live range, with Windows
Live Search (Desktop), Windows Live Mail Desktop and Windows Live Toolbar
expected to follow later this year.

Are you sure that's not just a rumour? I've seen the original article on
bink, and it doesn't quote any sources.

Who knows? Even when MS promises a release you cant even be sure then!
(see vista delays)

Vista delays is not because MS wants so but the simple fact that 3rd parties
are not ready with their software.
Just thing about it. If MS wants to release in december 2006, the 3rd
parties must have already their software compatible with Vista. This thing
can be possible only if Vista will be "ready to ship" before december 06. As
Vista, "possible" will be finished in december, they have to give some time
to the 3rd parties and other software developers to update its products or
release new versions.

As of Live Messenger, I think they have to release [at least] one more beta
version before (non-beta) public availability. There are still some bugs,
features and other issues to be fixed...

To some people, nothing is EVER Microsoft's fault. They've learned well from
MS. When something goes wrong, always blame somebody else.

What are you all talking about? I already have messenger 8. The best part
are teh sharing folder, it makes transfers so much easier.

How come you all don't have it yet???

You are running a beta version of Windows Live Messenger 8. You can confirm
by going to Help, About Messenger within your Windows Live Messenger install
(it will say beta in capital letters)

The final version has not been released yet.

This may be a stupid question but I am currently looking a program that will
allow me set send messages within a network. I do not want it to connect to
the internet to send the messages and it must be free. Is Windows Messenger
capable of this as I have never used it before.
Thanks

If I understood correctly, you want to send message to a PC in your network,
right?
For this you can use the Messenger Service in Windows XP.
First you must start the the messenger service and then open RUN and type
net send PC-NAME MESSAGE to send a message to PC-NAME computer in your
network or
net send * MESSAGE to send a messsage to all PCs in the network that have
also started their Messenger Service.

To receive a message, the PC also must have the service started.

For further details see here

No. Windows Messenger connects either to the public Messenger servers, or to
an internal Exchange or Live Communications Server server, either of which
are not free. You must use either of the three for it to work.
