I would like to try Windows Live Mail, however I have not been successful in
the installation. I have the latest build, (I hope), but at the end of the
installation, it tells me that I need to be connected to the internet, etc.
I am currently connected at that time. I can ping, surf, etc. I have been
watching the news group, and see some of the things users are changing to
get it to install, and have tried most of them, but still have not been able
to finish the installation process. Any additional ideas appreciated.
Thanks.

Go to Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties, Advanced.

Many thanks Gary. Downloaded the "uninstaller" from the below link, did the
re-install, and it installed without a hitch. However, the installation did
not import any contacts, and it only imported about 1/4 of the newsgroups
that I had setup under Windows Mail. Is there a way to import the contacts?
I have around 75 contacts. It would take some time, but I could add them one
by one I guess. The newsgroups are not that big of a deal, I could set those
up one by one as well.

I too am having a problem same as Fishermun. However after trying the same
things, my Live Mail will still not connect. Any suggestions. Lost without
e-mail.

In Windows Live Mail, click on Contacts (near lower left corner),
then when the Contacts window comes up, on its toolbar click
the Show Menu icon, then File, Import. It should give you several
choices, one being "Address book for current Windows user".
This is the same import source as Vista's Windows Contacts.

See my response to Fishermun.

By "Live Mail will not connect" do you mean it won't download mail
from your ISP or from Hotmail? Please include the exact error message.

The icon is on the desktop. However when I click on it, this message appears:
Starting Windows Live Mail for the first time requires an online connection.
Please connect to the internet and then try again. (0x80048883). When I
click OK, the following message appears:Windows Live Mail could not be
started because msmail.dll could not be initialized. I am connected to the
internet as I am on satellite. When I click OK on the second box, nothing
more happens.
I have taken it out and re-installed it several times today per your
earlier posts.

It is frustrating as I am dead in the water for e-mail due to Windows Mail
now asking me for logon info and when I give it, it asks again and again and
again. Have been the whole rout with that mess, so decided to try Windows
Live Mail and ended up with another mess.

Thanks

Thanks for Thunderbird idea. I installed the software and when it came time
to connect to my ISP, similar messages I was getting with Windows Mail. This
has led me to believe that this may be an ISP issue. Now to do battle with
Hughes! Thanks for your help.

Regretfully I can't offer support for Hughes or Thunderbird issues.
Good luck!

Spinwood, if you are referencing Hughes as the Internet satellite dish as
your connection to the internet, I to use Hughes, behind a Linksys wireless
router, and finally everything seems to be working correctly. If not, sorry,
I can not help.
