windows live mail and messenger

Every time I start either window live mail or messenger, I keep getting th
same error code "8000ffff". It says my disk may be full or I am out of
memory. I know for a fact that none of those are true. On messenger, it gives
me the same code, but tells me to download the latest edition of messenger.
But I already have the latest edition. what do I do now?
