winXP has configured the win "key" for minimize all,
search, lock out session, run, etc.....BUT i would really
like to configure it for opening up IE or maybe another
program of my choosing, is there a built in way of doing
this, or can i tweak the registery to make this
configuration. I know i can d/l 3rd party software that
will achieve this, but i rather have winXP do it.

There's a very nice freeware program called Winkey which will allow
you to set up all the windows key shortcuts you could possibly
remember, as well as coming with some built-in, like WK arrow up to
maximize, WKY for My Computer. Can be found at.
http://www.hotfiles.com and many other sources.

BUT if you REALLY want to do it via Windows, you can right-click an IE
shortcut - I just tried it with the one in Programs. Where it says
shortcut key, type "i" (no quotes), and Ctrl + Alt + will be
automatically filled in. Set it to run in a maximized window. Apply.
Okay. Some have to be on the desktop in order to work.
