Windows just closing down

I open Outlook express and it closes. Sometimes immediately after it looks
like it's opening. Sometimes after I click on an eail to read it.

IE and one other program I use won't even open. They start to look they are
going to open but then just close.

Any help?

Thanks

We'll need a lot more information than that if you expect more than
generic troubleshooting or a lucky guess..

Any ideas as to why this may be happening? Any changes made to software,
hardware or configuration settings?

Using "optimization" programs?

Information from Event Viewer?

Same problems in Safe Mode with Networking?

What were you trying to do with the computer before these problems started?

We rely totally on you to provide information.

Nothing unusual. Same routines.

The only thing I tried was after it started I removed IE 8. (IE 7 remained.)
Everything went back to normal and worked fine. But when I booted up the next
day it was right back with the same problems. For what it's worth I ran a
scan and found one virus and it was removed.

This doesn't sound like much help but thanks for trying.

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Prior to running the scan which found a virus, what type of anti-malware
software did you have, if any?
