hi. About every day, sometimes twice a day, my new laptop stalls and does
not want to shutdown. so I must manually have to hold the power button to
shut it down. I always close all my applications before I try to shut down.
my LT is slightly over a month old so, I dont know if I need to do something
to it.
window xp home-sp2-windows firewall- I do frequent scans and virus checks.
(adaware, AVG, spyware blaster, spyware guard, SS&D, etc) thanks for any
help

See what you've got running that is failing. I'm assuming that it
doesn't stall and then you try to shut down but that what you are
really saying is that you try and shut down and the laptop hangs. If my
interpretation of your post is incorrect, then please post back with a
better description of exactly what is happening.

Look in Event Viewer for clues.
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

yes malke, I close all my windows, then click start>turn off computer>turn
off. I then hear the music that windows is shutting down and see those same
words. but it stalls at that point. so, then I press the power button to
manually turn off.
what do you think I can check & do. thanks for your reply

Hi Malke: I viewed things in the event viewer.. Sorry, But i am not as
skilled as you and many other to understand all that is said there. I also
read a it on the link, and will coninue to read more in hopes of
understanding more. I did make one observation in thelast week or so. The
shut down only stalls (or it seems)
AFTER I had placed the LT on hibernation. that may be a clue.
for ex: I surf for a bit. place the LT on hibernation> come back at a later
time> then continue to work. when I am done, and proceeed to shut down, then
THAT is when it happens. thanks
