Windows Installer

I am having disastrous problems with my PC. For starters,
after I log on to my user profile, a series of Windows
installer windows keep popping up trying to install XP
Small Business. Despite me owning this disk, the programme
still doesn't allow me to install Small Business stating
that I need to insert Windows XP Service Pack 1 CD into
the CD-Rom drive.
Another issue, whether related or not, deals with the CD-
Rom drive, which has been renderred virtually useless for
games data CD's and the Xp Small Business CD in particular.
Any suggestions as to how I may resolve this problem would
be most appreciated.

Are you running Windows XP Home or XP Professional?
I think you might have to run "mmc" and configure it to allow elevated
privileges for installations and to allow users to browse for and to use
media while elevated. Try a search (Google) for something like "windows
installer always tries" and you should find a Microsoft page which
describes how to disable and/or configure Windows Installer properties.
(I don't have the info to hand and don't have time right now to look for
it)
