When trying to install NAV 2004 I received 6 Warning 1909
messages. Was told that was because Windows Installer was
broken.
How can I fix it? I've been to the KB and there is
nothing there that seems to address fixing this module.
I'm using WinXP Pro and have all the applicable updates
installed.

Go to run, type:services.msc In msc scroll down to installer, start the service.
If it runs ok w/o errors its not broken, event viewer will/would also show results.
If its broke, start, run, type:cmd in cmd type:Sfc /Scannow when the bar graph
starts insert xp cd,exit the info page.

Thank you for your response. I went to "services.msc",
found Windows Installer and, from the menu at the top of
the page, selected "Start". A window opened very quickly
and a installation type scroll bar could be seen running
but it all happened so quickly that I couldn't read any
messages. So, I don't know whether it ran properly or not.

Tried to enter the Event Viewer but couldn't find how to
do it.

PhilW,
Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer,
but I have questions. Did you have an earlier version
of NAV installed on your computer? If so, did you use
Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to remove it before
you attempted to install NAV 2004? Did you in your
attempt to install NAV 2004 use the default installation
path?

Sometimes Add/Remove Programs does not remove all
elements of the software. In that case, problems do
arise. Symantec has two tools to remove those elements -
one removes NAV 2003 and earlier versions; the other
removes the firewall 2003 and earlier versions.

Go here to read all about it and to download the tools,
if you think that is what you need:
http://tinyurl.com/nk2d - (NAV tool)
http://tinyurl.com/2bpt9 - (firewall tool)

Good luck!

Went to Event Log per your instructions. Don't know that
I understand everything I saw so in order to test the
Installer, I ran the test again and the Log showed that
a "Start Control" was successfully sent and that the
Installer "entered the running state".
Can I assume that if there was anything wrong with the
Installer that I would have seen an Error message in the
log?
Yes NAV 2002 was installed previously but was installed
on the G drive. It worked perfectly. It was uninstalled
twice actually since I uninstalled it using Add/Remove
and then with NAV Support help, using all the tools you
referenced.
My first attempt to install 2004 was on my G drive but
Support requested I use the default and so the last 4
attempts have been on the default and using Selective
Startup. One of the installations was under the guidance
of a "For Pay" Symantec tech.
I tried again yesterday and received the same "Warning
1909" "Could not create shortcut Help and Support.lnk.
Verify that the destination folder exists and that you
can access it." Plus 4 other similar Warning 1909's.
For what it's worth, when I type anything or click on an
activation button like the Send button to send this
message, there is a delay before the action or the
letters typed appear on the screen that is sometimes the
equivalent, in the time it takes to type 8-10 characters.
Hope this makes sense to you and that you are able to
figure out what is going on.
PhilW
