Every time I start my computer a box appears saying "peparing to install
windows installer" which I normally ignored until today.
I tried installing "Office 2000" and a box appeared saying "The windows
installer service can not be accessed. This can occur if running in safe
mode or windows installer is not correctly installed.
What mode should I be operating in and/or how can i install windows
installer correctly???????????? :o :confused: :mad:

Make sure that the mentioned service is running in the Control Panel >
Administrative Tools >Services.
You can also download the Windows Installer 3.1 from the Windows
Update Catalog site to reinstall it. See "How to Download Windows
Updates and Drivers from the Windows Update Catalog on Windows XP"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323166).

Why are you asking here? What does this have to do with XP and
hardware? You did read the group's title before posting, right?

"You receive a "The Windows Installer service could not be accessed
error message when you run the Office 2000 Setup program."
