Upon boot-up, desktop coming up in the background, get
error message "The path C:\winnt\temp\vies4686
\um\SGuard.msi cannot be found" so can't find
SGuard.msi...said it was a Windows Installer issue.
Also, having trouble installing DSL service...finishing
account set up. Can't complete any Windows Updtate
session. Can't set up an MSN hotmail account(the computer
just doesn't seem to want to interact). Recently re-
installed Windows2000 to try to help with the internet
shortcomings, then got the SGuard.msi message.

Would appreciate any help!

It looks like something was installed from SGuard.msi (sounds like a virus
or firewall product) and the file is missing. It was probably installed from
some setup exe that unpacked that MSI file into the temp folder and
installed it from there, then the temp folder was cleaned out. There are a
number of reasons why Windows might want that MSI file again, but if some of
the files from that product have been removed it will try to replace them.
The rest of it looks like an Internet connection problem, and that might be
related to that SGuard problem if it's a firewall product that's broken.

Thanks for your response! This problem computer is my
father's, I'm trying to give him a hand. He recently
installed Norton Internet Security Prof. so I'll suggest
he try to reinstall it to get that file in place. Then
maybe look at the firewall settings to see if something
there is limiting internet interaction.
