I cannot install any programs. I receive "Internal Error
2203" every time I try to install a program. Anybody
know how to repair the windows installer program or
remove and reinstall it? Running Win XP Pro. I have
tried System Restore and that has not helped.
.
Hi, I think just check out some things first so I get an
Idea of what is going on there.
(Type: Services.msc into Run on Start Menu) Find
Windows Installer on list double Click and select
properties. It should be on Manual, ok if stopped try to
Start, Its path to executable, should be
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msiexec.exe /V and that /V Switch
should be there, as it is here.
"Log On", Tab Local System Account checked also
Allow Service to interact with Desktop and Profile is
Enabled. Recovery, No actions "0" and Dependencies
there are none. Next enter these files in Search and see
if they are indeed on your system, first msiexec.exe
then Cscui.dll and System.adm also Userenv.dll . these
where the files named in Service pack, also look into
your event viewer for more info on what is wrong and what
is the Version of it , 1.2 or 2.0 etc.
I'll tell you how to do it. I know 2203 is Database:
Cannot open database file. System error. Not quite
enough.
To view a specific log for a specific program or event
go to: Start> Control Panel>Performance and
Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer>DBL Click
ON, Event Viewer (Local)>Left Click ON: Application>
View>Click on Find>Click Drop down Menu on Event
Source>Select: MsiInstaller>Click Drop Down Menu for:
Category that will be 'ALL">then click on Find Next. Go
through them all and see what file, event numbers,
Version etc. Post back......
