A few months back, maybe after a Windows Update, a strange thing started to
happen with our PC's.
We could not install any software that used the 'windows installer'. The
message was 'installer cannot be accessed ....etc, please contact your
administrator'
The DC is a W2K server with SP4, and all PC's / laptops have XP SP1 and SP2.
The error message was only happening on machines with XP SP2.
I have tried all the fixes that I came across over the web, but to no avail.
And at the same time, we use Dell pc's / laptops, the wireless cards in the
laptops stopped functioning.
So the only result that worked was to demote the machines back to XP SP1.
But now when we get new machines that come with SP2 built in, I have to
reinstall with SP1, before I do any installs as the same problems occurs. But
only when I join the PC to the domain.
This is so frustrating.
We recently purchased a new Dell 2950 server with W2K3. And when I joined
this to the domain the same error happened.
But this dosent have to be on the domain as its only a Lotus Notes server
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening???
