windows installer errors

windows installer errors eg.(installer service corrupted,
windows running in safe mode) when downloading microsoft
system updates on a fresh/upgrade OS(2000) installation.
During selection of updates (via browser) hangup is also
occurring.
Any guidance or critique on this matter would be much
appreciated.
I would call Bill directly but he's probably not out of
bed yet.

After three failed attempts at sp4 and one failed attempt
at sp3, I've finally been able to install sp4! See MS
Article 813747. Even though this error and resolution are
related to sp3, after I installed a fresh version of
Windows Installer I thought I might as well try sp4 again
and it worked. Good Luck!!
