Windows Installer Error 1601

Please help....
I am getting an error message that states I... "may be
running in safe mode or Windows Installer may be installed
incorrectly"... when I try to add features to Excel or
download a new version of MSN Messenger.

I am doing online classes and need to resolve this issue
very quickly!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Looks like Windows Installer Service is corrupted. You can down load and
re-install the Installer Service from the below link.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4b6140f9-2d36-4977-
8fa1-6f8a0f5dca8f&DisplayLang=en

You can also verify whether the Windows Installer Service is started or not
by going to CONTROL PANEL,Services and checking for the status.
