Please, help!!!

This is a windows 2000 server.

I cannot install any program in this computer; The
installation gets stack or I receive a message about
windows installer: it doest not start; it is corrupted;
access denied (even when the user is the administrator),
and others.

I just want to know how to reinstall "windows installer"
or make it work properly.

Thanks,

Emilio Viera.

A package of the Microsoft Installer should be on any CD
you've purchased as almost everything uses MSIs to
install.. You can also download the newest copy from
Microsoft's Download Centre. When you say the installation
gets stuck, does it hang, error, give any kind of error
code at all? What does the Event Log say?

Hi

Try the methods one by one outlined here to fix Windows Installer problems in
Win2k and NT4:

PRB: Incorrect Default DCOM Settings Cause Windows Installer to Stop Responding

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;319624

After running through the four points above, also try this from Start/Run:

msiexec /regserver

If that doesn't solve your problem, and you have MSI 2.0 installed, downgrade
to version 1.1 (somewhat messy), and then install MSI 2.0 again:

Hi, Torgeir:

I am so grateful to you. I have been fighting this problem
for far over a week. Your instructions worked perfectly!!!

It was not easy though:

1) At method 1 step 5, I opted to reinstall service
pack 4, since this was the one previously installed in the
server. From this point onwards, I did not know if your
subjections were going to work.

2) At method 4 step 2, I found out
that '..MSIServer/security' was not there*, and at step 4
I got a message saying that 'the specified service already
exists.'

* After following the 4 methods, I run msiexec/regserver
as you suggested and verified that '..MSIServer/security'
was already there.

Thanks a lot,

Emilio Viera.

Note: I found you post, but not my original one.
