windows installer 3.1 failure

Hello, newbie to this site and have a problem to ask about. Installed xp pro
sp2 on my new pc and install went smooth. I completed the install and added
Ca anti-virus and connected to the internet. I also activated my XP
software. Then i responded to the auto updates request. Seems that the
windows installer 3.1 fails to install and the error message is 0x800f0102.

Abit KN8 with AMD 3500+
nForce4 chipset
Seagate ST3100011A and Hitachi HDT722525DLAT80 PATA master/slave
eVGA GeForce6500
2x512mb matched Kingston dual channel ddr400
Sony DRU-820A
 
Not familiar with that error. Have you tried a manual download and install?
Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2)

If that fails, maybe post to the Windows update newsgroup - don't forget to tell them what operating
system and as much information as you can.
