My configuration
win xp pro sp2 english
firefox 1.5.0.x
Windowns Genuine advantage validation plug-in installed / firefox is
reporting it on the list of installed plug-ins
Regular work on user win account with restricted privilages.
Just on this account I am working while encountering the problems described
below. Not tried on the admin account yet.

I want to download the Windows Defender Beta 2.
But the download process is still suggesting me to download and install
first the windows genuine plug-in
to validate my win installation (after I push the continue botton on the
Defender's download page).
But this plug-in is already installed
What is missing on my system ?

Invoking the procedure of alternative validation metod
the MS site offers tu run some another tool.
I can not choise "Open" cause first virus and malware check must be done
first.
It means, I have first to save it on the disc, check and then run.
Running GenuineCheck.exe from the disc results in an error message:
0x80072ee2.

How get I access to the win defender download ?

Unfortunately the same history on the admin account.
Invoking the installation of WGAPluginInstall.exe as admin
returns a message - the plug-in is already installed.

Here one specifical thing about my browser configuration:
The cookies are generally disabled. May I allow some
sites to be able to set cookies, then I have to define
an exception rule for this site.
The same applies to the Java, JavaScripts.
Does the running of Genuine Verification Plug-in
requires the cookies or Java, JavaScripts are enabled ?
If yes, what dns address must I enable to set cookie/run Java, JavaScript ?
Maybe here lies the reason.

I seem to have found the problem reason.
I downloaded the Win Genuine Advantage Validation plug-in once again.
This time from the site the Defender is being offered to download.
I don't remember where I got the already installed plug-in version from.

I compared the properties of the installed old plug-in and the fresh
downloaded one.
And the versions are different:

- installed plug-in
file version - 6.0.3790.0
file version from the 'other version information' field - 1.4.0410.0
product name from the 'other version information' - Microsoft® Windows
Genuine Advantage Validation
product version from the 'other version information' - 1.4.0410.0

- new downloaded plug-in:
file version - 6.0.2900.2180
file version from the 'other version information' field - 1.5.0512.0
product name from the 'other version information' - Microsoft® CoReXT
product version from the 'other version information' - 1.5.0512.0

Can you explain the differences in file properties ?

I installed the plug-in once again, as admin.
And now I am able to download the defender successful.

Why did it not work with the older plug-in version ?

Hi

This is beacuse of an endless cat&rat battle between MS and pirates.

Every month MS releases a new WGA tool version and the day after the
pirates have a new genuinevalidation file.

Endless loop and maybe disturbing..............

Hi Tom

Well, I was just checking out a p2p site and they
"proudly" present March month validation bypass............

There are also other bypass files which includes some
"nice" hijacks for example to the site you visited.

It must be an end with todays pirating but I don´believe
it´s possible with todays prices and when users read
about Mr Bill G/Donald Duck bathing in money.

One way is as with One Care licenses up to 3 PCs.

;)

plun

yes, with the plug-in new downloaded and installed it works nice pretty.

The WGA process was revised on March 1, 2006. I don't know why FireFox
didn't recognize that the controls were different and allow you to download
the new one.
