Windows Genuine Advantage and Microsoft.com

I was labelled a pirate! Why would I pirate a piece of software from
Microsoft, freely available from their website. I am using Windows Vista RC2
Build 5744 and have done so for many uninterrupted weeks, until now. I was
asked to validate Windows when downloading software from Microsoft.com, I
installed the ActiveX control and to my dismay was labelled as using a
pirated copy of Windows. So I tried to use System Restore to remove the
software but this did not work, then I went to reactivate Windows through
System Properties like the download prompted me to do so, and it said that my
copy was genuine and accepted my product key. However, the annoying popup
continues to label me a pirate and has disabled my Aero glass effects. Help
would be greatly appreciated.

I had a rather similar experience with XP. I solved it by downloading and
running the Microsoft Genuine Validation Diagnostic (MGADiag). The popups
went away some hours after I ran the thing - not right away. I don't know if
it works with Vista though.
