Windows Freezes on Video Play

If I click a link in a web page that is supposed to play
a video, whether it be Windows Media or Real Player, my
whole machine freezes up. YOu can sometimes hear the
audio in the background for a bit, but the only option is
to turn the power off. How can I fix this?
