Hi,

My Windows 2000 (SP4) freezes every time, I plug in a new device (USB-stick,
USB-harddrive, camera-adapter). The mouse-pointer moves, but windows doesnt
react on anything. If I plug in while the computer is off, most devices run
properly (a phone-adapter does not). I deinstalled every component I found
which has USB in its name. After that, windows reinstalled those devices
successfully. But the problem still remains. I installed the latest
mainboard-drivers (nForce 2), but nothing helped. The bios of the mainboard
is actual.

Can someone please give me a hint about solving this problem?

Volker:

Are you sure Win 2k is non-responsive or perhaps it is just that your mouse
clicking is not functional? Try this again and see if you can navigate
around using the keyboard (alt-tab, arrow keys, etc.). My system sometimes
does that and it is because something got screwed up in the mouse but the
OS itself is fine so logging out and logging back in resets the mouse. If
you have a USB mouse you might be able to unplug the mouse and plug it back
in without the log out/log in thing. If you have a PS/2 mouse I am not
sure how to solve the problem other than resetting things.

Hi William,

Thank your for your reply.

There is no response even for Ctrl+Alt+Delete or Ctrl+Esc. The only think
that helps is to reset the computer. Maybe the reaction is only very(!)
slow, because I remember that once a window came up after a (long) time.
