Hi All.

I've been using Vista for a week noww and I am surprised at the size of the
Windows folder - 12.2GB. The breakdown is winsxs @3.5, Installer @3.2 and
System32 @2.8.

Can I sue compression on any of these folders or are there alternatives? My
c: partition is a little over 26GB and I am running SQL 2005 and Visual
Studio (their sizes I can live with).

Thanks in advance.

Mark

FWIW on my machine:

Windows folder 7.68 gb
Winsx 3.37 gb
Installer 785 mb
System32 2.65 gb

Your installer folder is noticeably much larger than mine!

Have you looked at reducing the size of the Recycle Bin. I would
set a smaller % size for the operating system partition than for
other partitions!

THanks for your response Gerry.

My recycle bin was set @ 2.5GB so I reduced it to a more manageable size of
1.5.

The other folders need attention though and I have lost the ability to use
Partition Magic (which I used to create the partitions in XP prior to
upgrade). Another option may be to move the windows/temp folders to another
partition.

BTW - I noticed the problem when I tried to burn a 4.3GB DVD.

What other partitions / drives do you have and what free space
there?

Hi Gerry,

120GB SATA drive with the following :

c: 26.8 GB (4.94 free)
d: 6.82 (6.82 free and HP Recovery partition)
g: 78.1 (16.5 free)

Drive d: can be culled as it is an XP recovery partition and no longer
required. Much of drive g: will also be recovered when I burn 5x DVD disks
that I have residing there.

Thanks...
