Windows folder cannot be shared, why not?

I have two computers side-by-side with an operational network. One is
an older P4 running WinME and one is a brand new P4-3000 running WinXP
Home. I have a need to copy huge amounts of files from the
"C:\Windows" and C:\Program Files" folders of the old comuter to the
same folders in the new computer. Unfortunately the XP system won't
allow me to share these folders, even though I specified from the top
level that all folders are to be shared. Am I doing something wrong?
If not, is there a simple way to copy between the "locked" folders on
these two systems?

Greetings Bill,

That's how Windows XP works with simple file sharing. It doesn't allow you to share the Program Files and Windows folder. Since you have XP Home, there's really nothing you can do. That's how Microsoft designed it and not sure why. You can share folders within those folders (eg. C:\Programs Files\Outlook Express).

That's what I was afraid of! I can always copy files from the old
system to something like "C:\Program Files Temp", then go to the new
system to finish the job. This is a PITA, but I don't see a good
alternative!

BTW - I can see MS not allowing sharing with the Windows folder, but
why Program Files???

Thanks, Bill

Interesting, when I'm sitting at the WinME system's keyboard, I can't
copy through the network to the WinXP's Program Files folder. But
when I sit at the WinXP system's keyboard and copy from the WinME
system to the Program Files folder of the WinXP system, it works! The
problem is solved, so never mind! :-)

As you can tell, I'm definitely an XP "newbie". I got my first XP
system just yesterday - prior to this I had never even seen XP!
