There is no incompatibility between a floppy created on one
Windows operating system and another. They all use FAT12 and
should work in exactly the same way.

There may be an incompatibility in the way the two diskette
*drives* are aligned, preventing reading of a diskette created on
the other drive.

You might try this; Format a floppy on your XP machine. On a 9x machine,
copy to file the floppy in question. Copy that file to the XP floppy. Then
use the floppy on your XP machine.

This is something I read on the web-site of a major university that was
having problems with floppies students had written on their non XP machines
at home. They gave details as to why the XP machines had trouble reading 9x
formatted disks but, I don't recall the details.

It seems that some people's XP machines have no problems with 9x floppies
and others do....?
