I waa looking at the "Exceptions" boxes in the firewall, and the only one
checked was "File Transfer Program".. No other program was
checked including Firefox.
I downloaded some files this A.M. even without Firefox being checked.
I have no clue about the "File Transfer Program". Would I run into any
problems by unchecking the "File Transfer Program" or using the "No
Exceptions" in the "Windows Firewall" set up ?? TIA

When you download a file from a web browser (IE, whatever), you initiate the
transfer, thus it is allowed through your firewall.

What the "File Transfer Program" you see in the exception list is: FTP
downloads. (%SystemDrive%\WINDOWS\system32\ftp.exe)

In order for that to be in your exceptions list - someone with
administrative rights on your computer had to add an exception manually for
the program (C:\WINDOWS\system32\ftp.exe) and it added what you see now. If
you are not using FTP to download things - you have no need for this entry -
albeit only hurting things if you get infested/infected with something that
would take advantage of that exception and/or you start maliciously
downloading bad thins to your computer using FTP.
