In HpM370n Mce2005 Control Panel's Security Center, Internet and Automatic
update settings can be varied, but Windows Firewall exceptions are set to Off
and I am unable to change it to On with Don't allow exceptions as used to be
the case. I see the options but their lettering is a faded color.
I would apprecaite some suggestion that would set this right.

It seems you have malware on your computer which is disabling the firewall.
Although Windows Firewall is very very good , it is easy to manipulate if
your antivirus/antispyware software isn't working/isn't good.

I agree with Panda_man and you should proceed accordingly. If you can logon
as an administrator use regedit to access the registry and if you find any
entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall
then right click the WindowsFirewall registry key and select delete. You may
need to reboot to see changes take effect. If you are using XP Pro then
Group Policy [gpedit.msc] may also be configured to do the same thing though
that would be unusual to be configured by malware. --- Steve
