Windows files missing?????????

I have a problem that started slowly:
first.......... i was unable to sign into msn.com , I
kept getting an error message stating that either my user
name or password was incorrect.....
then..some of my search engines such as side step stopped
running
then.....when i tried to run Nortons it said it had
encountered an internal error
then......on booting the PC i began to get a 'windows
file protection message' saying that some files were
missing and i should insert the windows XP home edition
CD 1
then......when i tried to run windows update i got an
erroor message 0x800B0004

Can anybody please give me some advice on what to do or
where to go, this PC is over a year old so warranty is no
more an option.

do you have a windows xp cd? you need one when it asks. otherwise contact
your supplier who should tell you what options you have.

this is why i always buy and install windows myself rather than have no cd
when i need it.
