hi
I would appreciate it if anyone could help me resolve this. I downloaded
several updates and during the updates I received this Windows File
Protection message. It states that necessary files have been replaced &
that original files need to be restored. It says that the location from
which the files should be copied
C:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386/controls.man is not available. It says to
insert XP KB900725 Source Files. I haven't had any success locating a fix
on MS website.
I have not rebooted since the download. I would appreciate any help on
fixing this if anyone has a solution. THANK YOU

Scott

In the run screen type "sfc /scannow" which verifies all the OS files and
may fix your problem. You probably will need the Windows Operating System CD
that came with your computer.

Frank,

Does it matter that the CD doesn't have all the updates from Microsoft?

....this question has been lurking in my mind for a while.

I do not know how it works but I have never had a problem by running it. I
would guess that if any where modified after a damaged file is reloaded then
it would be a "new" update in the Microsoft Update.
