Files that are required for Windows to run properly have
been replaced by unrecognised versions. To maintain system
stability, windows must restore the original version of
these files.

Insert your windows 2000 pro cd now.

I have done this but still no joy - any help would be much
appreciated.

Try running sfc /scannow from a command line. This should replace any
unrecognised files with the backups that are kept in the dllcache folder.
