I've had an occasion to notice that the windows explorer, not IE has been
trying to access the net, and I'm unsure as to why that must be. If its only
because it's trying to access the immediate house network than I no longer
need to block it through the firewall.. If otherwise, why does it do that, or
even need to?

You must understand and "need" to know that Windows Explorer is still
"Internet Explorer.' Microsoft had designed XP "around" Internet
Explorer and this is the "main" reason that you can not normally
uninstall Internet Explorer completely.

Thanks for the quick response. And it fully answered the question I had
about its access to the net.
