I posted this before but no joy. Try again:
I am no longer able to open a folder in Windows Explorer
or My Computer by clicking or double-clicking. This action
activates the Search Results window, double pane, with the
Search input fields on the left. I can only open folders
by a right click/Open process.
I think I caused this problem while following instructions
found in a newsgroup (unknown now), to modify the right
click menu. In Windows Explorer/Folder Options/File
Types/File Folder/Advanced, I added "New Sub Folder Here"
and "Print Directory Listing" to the Actions List. In the
File Types list the Folder and File Folder icons are
marked N/A, but the system let me edit the Actions List.
However it will not allow me to delete the actions I added
(Edit and Remove are not active). I've lived with this for
a long time but I would like to correct the problem. Any
suggestions?
Thanks, Jack Trewren

I responded to your post Sent: Tuesday, October 07, 2003 03:48 PM, to
microsoft.public.win2000.general, with the Subject: Windows Explorer/My
Computer. Perhaps you missed the response so here it is again.

I, too, had this problem after using the Edit File Type dialog box for
the Drive or File Folder registered file types. For the resolution see
the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article (although written for
Windows XP, the resolution also works for Windows 2000).

KB321186 - Search Companion Starts If You Double-Click a Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321186

BTW, you can use Google Groups Advanced Search, with relevant criteria,
to easily find specific threads. For example, if I enter your email
address in the "Return only messages where the author is" box and click
"Google Search" 3 hits are returned. The results page includes a link
you can use to "View Thread".

Keep in mind that, according to the Google Help Page: "There may be a
delay of up to 12 hours between articles being posted to a news server
and those articles being searchable within Google's newsgroup search."
Also, although Google does archive microsoft.public.win2000.general and
this newsgroup, it does not archive all microsoft newsgroups.

I am having the same, very frustrating problem. I simply want to double-click to open files and folders like I used to, but instead I now get the Search window. Like Jack, I also tweaked Explorer to allow "Print Directory Listing." Any help would be appreciated, as I have so far been unsuccessful find an answer to this annoying problem
