Is there a way of changing the default folder view in windows explorer
through a group policy. My remote users are having problems finding files in
windows explorer and I need to change the folder view from large icons to
details for all remote users across the board. Any suggestions/ideas?

Leo

Leo,

I've been researching the same configuration and have found nothing so far.
Let me know if you find it! I'll do the same in return.

Thanks,

Wade

The best I could find on this was a no go via Group Policy or even direct
registry access. :

Enabling - View Options (Large Icons. Small Icons, List, and Details)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

These items were not designed to be modified via Group Policy or registry
edit.
Many of the setting for Explorer are in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer.
Manipulation
of the registry values will not result in a standardized desktop. These
items were
never designed to be manipulated any other way outside of the GUI.

You may want to modify the Windows Explorer views to standardize a
Desktop scheme after a large volume of systems have been rolled out.

Use the one button process in the GUI to make this change on a per computer
basis:

Go to "My Computer" and choose "view", then set to the preferred folder
view.
Then go to "Tools\Folder Options\View" Check "Remember each folder's view
settings" under Advanced Settings. Choose "Like Current Folder" on the same
page under Folder views. This will save their settings on the local
computer.

it looks like this data may be contained in an unreadable "blob" somewhere
unser: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

As for the Folder Views in Explorer: other than setting it manually,
the only way I can think of is through I mandatory profile for your
users.

As for the Games, you can remove them completely with the Add\Remove
Windows components when you create the image for your PCs and laptops.
If your users don't have install rights, then they won't be able to
readd them.
