I have a customer with a computer running Windows 2000
Pro and when he clicks on anything that would open up
with Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer, the computer
starts thinking and acts like it is going to open it,
then the screen refreshes and nothing happens. I have
run a virus scan, all of the Windows Updates, done a
repair installation of Windows, and gone through
Microsoft's knowledge base with a fine tooth comb. I am
at a loss as to what else I can do short of reformatting
and starting over, which I can't do right now and save
his data. The data is business related and essential to
him and we can't get into the folders. He does not want
to allow me to put the hard drive into another computer
to make a backup, even at his house, because the data on
his hard drive is so sensitive. So, I am still at a
stage where I just need to fix the problem. Any help or
insight that anyone could provide would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

I feel your pain. Dell Laptop Windows 2000 Pro. I have
tried absolutely everything. I posted the same question
to the group a little while ago. It got two respones but
neither worked. If you figure it out please post the
solution and I'll do the same. I did have someone suggest
it is caused by an April Fools Day virus and there may not
be a cure for it yet.

I did the Scan with a 2000CD, It didn't help.
I did notice that I could use netscape to browse and act
as my windows explorer for now. It takes out the gui type
of ease of seeing and accessing everything. System still
viable till a real fix comes along. If it is a Virus of
unknown origin, it attacks the gui interface with in
explorer. The base gui of the desktop still remains. Will
load more info as I come up with other tricks and
solutions.
