I'm using W2000. In using Windows Explorer, I resize my window the way I
want it and close it. When I open it back up, it always goes back to the
size of the Internet Explorer window. Is there a work around, setting etc.
so Windows Explorer remembers its window size.

Thanks.

It will remember the size of the last one that's closed. So, make sure you
don't have any other Windows Explorer windows open. Also, is your shortcut
set to open maximized or anything?

Yes there is.

Right click on the IE icon in the Taskbar NOT ON THE DESKTOP. Select Properties and go to the Run Window and use the drop down arrow to select the Window size.

Hi Srm,

I suggest we try the following methods to resolve the problem. We may need
to

stop if the prior action takes care of the problem.

Method I

---------

1. Open Windows Explorer.

2. Click View and then click Folder Options.

3. Click the View tab.

4. Enable "Remember each folder¡¯s view settings".

5. Click OK.

If it is already enabled, disable it, restart the computer and then
re-enable
it back.

Method II

----------

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may
require you to reinstall your operation system. Microsoft cannot guarantee
that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be
solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Before you proceed, make sure
you back up the registry. For information about how to edit the registry,
view
the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

1. Click Start, click Run, type ¡°regedit?(without quotation marks) in the
Open
line, and click OK.

2. Check the following registry entries in the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Program
Manager\Restrictions key:

NoSaveSettings

Restrictions

The values of both entries should be set to 0. In addition, let me know the
names and values of other entries in this key.

3. Restart the system to let the registry change take effect.

Method III

----------

You may also try deleting the following registry keys except Default:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StreamM
RU

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams

According to my research, Windows stores up to 28 entries containing View
preferences for the windows that you open in a most-recently-used (MRU)
list.
When you close a window, the View preferences are written to subkeys with
the
names 0, 1, 2, and so on, located in the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams

The MRUList in the following registry key defines the order of the 28
entries:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StreamM
RU

When the one of the windows is no longer included in the MRU list, the
desktop
or window uses the default settings the next time the desktop or window is
redrawn or refreshed.

Method IV

----------

Press the Ctrl key on the keyboard while closing a window. That will help
system remember the folder size.

Method V

---------

1. Restart the computer and enter BIOS. Modify the setting and let the
system
first boot from the CD-ROM. You can get the detailed steps to enter into
BIOS
from the manual of the motherboard.

2. Insert the Windows XP install CD and restart the computer.

3. Press ENTER on the first option screen to select the "To set up Windows
XP
now, Press Enter".

4. Press F8 to accept the License Agreement.

5. Setup should now detect your installation.

6. When you are prompted to repair the existing Windows XP installation,
press
R.

7. Follow the setup wizard to repair your Windows XP.

If none of the above helps, please test if the problem occurs in Safe Mode.
To
enter Safe Mode, hold the F8 key when the computer starts up and choose
Safe
Mode from the startup menu.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing
from you.
