Windows Explorer will not write to DVD

When I insert a blank DVD into my Rw-DVD writer, windows explorer opens to
create a temporary location for files to be located. However, the option to
"Write files to CD" does not appear and when I try to drag a file into the
directory, I get the message "Windows encountered a problem when trying to
copy this file".

The DVD player plays all DVD types properly and I am able to use thirdparty
software to write to the DVD, so the hardware does not seem to be the problem.

The OEM can only suggest a complete reload of WinXP. Is there any way to
fix or repair this problem in a less drastic way?

I have WinXP MCE Ver2002 SP2

thanks in advance.

The native burning application in Windows XP will NOT write to DVD. You must
use your third-party application.

Did this ever work because I'm pretty sure Windows XP doesn't contain
built-in support for burning DVDs.

You can probably write to CD-r using explorer.

Get a different OEM. XP doesn't write to data DVDs. MCE, IIRC, will burn
(somewhat) video DVDs with Windows Movie Maker.

Thanks eveyone. Now that I think about it, I guess I've only written to CDs
using Windows and to DVDs with other apps. My very helpful OEM is Dell and
in my limited experience, "Reload WinXP seems to be their standard solution
for everything." But lets not go there....

Thanks again.
