Problem:

My windows explorer will not allow me to view drive
properties or sharing. In other words, whenever I right-
click and choose properties (or sharing) nothing happens.

I remember that in Windows NT this could be changed by
some registry settings.

Does anyone have any ideas???

Hi,

I too had a similar issue. I also had NIS 2004 installed. In Windows Explorer after right clicking on a folder and then clicking on either "Properties" or "Sharing and Secutiry" a window would not appear (it would work for files - just not folders).

Through some debugging I determined my particular problem was related to the having the "Internet Information Service (IIS)" running on my computer. Most people do not need this service unless your PC is being used as a "server" to host a Web, FTP, NNTP, or SMTP service.

I uninstalled by going to the Control Panel, Starting "Add or Remove Programs", clicking on "Add/Remove Windows Components", scroll down and deselect "Internet Information Services IIS", and clicking next. This uninstall can take some time on some computers so you may have to let in run for a while.

After the uninstall, I no longer had any problems opening up the "Properties" or "Sharing and Security" windows.

Of course, many computer problems/symptoms can have multiple causes so this may not relate to you.

Good luck
