My Windows Explorer can be extremly slow sometimes as
well as a "Save As" or "Open" box. I find this to be
true when I am connected to my server in a remote
location via a VPN, it doesnt matter if I log on with my
VPN connected first or if I am fully syncronized. It is
even slow when I am viewing items on my local drive. If
I disconnect my VPN things seem to speed up.

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance,

Marc

Yep... This is the behavior that is to be expected. Windows will
verify connection to any mapped drives for the location pull down
box...

Here's a tip for sppeding up network browsing on your server
You can speed up Windows Explorer's network neighborhood (on the server), but only AFTER you have disconnected all remote access connections. Just use the "services" MMC console to stop, then restart the "Routing and Remote Access" service. Apparently, once a remote access connection has been established to a RRAS server, the server binds netbios(needed for browsing Network Neighborhood) to the RRAS interface, and maintains that binding even after clients are disconnected. When you stop the RRAS service, you can see an immediate response when browsing network neighborhood.

If you have NetBIOS enabled... :)

I learned a long time ago to disable NetBIOS, even though it makes
things much more complicated...
