Windows Explorer, turn off column highlighting?

Anybody know of a way to turn off Windows Explorer column
highlighting? That would be useful for using a white text on black
background, since practically any highlight color looks too bright
when many filenames are highlighted at the same time.

Thanks.

For what it's worth...
The likely reason a darker highlight looks okay on a white
background, when many items are highlighted, is because it helps dim
what otherwise is like looking into a lightbulb while reading text. I
think people do not realize that black text on a white background is
not the same as the old-fashioned pencil on paper with its reflected
light. But that is another subject.

According to this discussion:
http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/windows-explorer-sort-column-color/79784.html

"There is no direct control of the color"
[and]
"The work-around is for me to use a dark blue window background. It
correctly makes the sort column only slightly less dark and that is perfect
for white text."
