Windows Explorer too slow

Hi. Need help. Am running Win98 SE. Just after installing IE6 sp1, I notice
the following problem which is a big inconvenience...
After a session in which I've deleted many files, especially when deleting
my cache files, or emptying my Recycle been when it's been allowed to get
very full, my PC runs very slowly- almost seeming like it's hung up but it's
not. This is most notable but not limited to when I'm using windows explorer.
Any function such as delete, rename, copy, refresh (F5) etc takes a very long
time as if it is doing a complete search for something or memory is full. Or
it may be doing something else which I am unaware of. System resources seem
to be ok as free resource levels seem to be the same as always. After a
reboot, all seems to be ok. Latest updated virus & spyware searches do not
show any problems. Again this is only since installing IE6. Please help.
Thanks.

After upgrading to IE6 SP1, did you revisit Windows Update and install all
identified Critical Security updates? To assure a clean install of
anything, including Windows Updates, your anti-virus application should be
disabled and all other running processes closed before beginning the
install.

Try "Taking Out the Trash", too: http://aumha.org/a/health.htm (Item 4).
