WINDOWS EXPLORER PROBLEM

When I open Windows Explorer, it goes to Windows/System32 rather than to
Documents where it was when closed.

What is the mechanism here? How do I get Windows Explorer to re-open where
it closed?

Thank you.

NOTE: I have changed the target field in Windows - Explorer - Propeties but
Windows Explorer keeps defaulting to the System32 folder. Is there
something in the registry that is locked?

Thank you.

It sounds that way. Have you installed or removed anything lately or
performed any registry edits? There's usually a good reason why explorer
would be pointing at the main system driver folder where the registry is
involved.

If this is only recently being seen your best option would using a
system restore point to go back before the problem was first seen. A bad
install of an update or program would be a likely cause if none of the
main system files are now missing or corrupted.

The other thing to try would be running the system file checker with
the installation disk in the drive before using a restore point to see
if that corrects any problem found.

If you are opening Windows Explorer from a shortcut on the Quick Launch bar
or desktop, check its Properties settings. Edit the Target entry under the
Shortcut tab to reflect where you want it to open. For example, to have it
open to your user name folder with subfolders expanded, enter this:

C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e, c:\users\(your user name)

Hope this helps.
