I have a 4 week old HP PC with Windows XP. Everything was going swimmingly
and I have now populated 'my records' with files and photos. I also use the
internet quite a lot. I have Mcafee installed and it seems to be working very
efficiently judging by all the emails and web pages rejected.

Suddenly yesterday I could no longer access my files using Windows Explorer
either through the shortcuts on my desktop or via START.

When I double click or right click and 'open' I get the message 'Windows
Explorer has encountered a problem & needs to close. We are sorry........may
be lost Error report created and then the choice of send or don't send
report.

Whichever I do I then lose the error message followed by all the icons on
the desktop for about 4 seconds then everything comes back looking normal.
But it isn't as I still acn't access my files. shutting down and restarting
has not worked.

I read some previous q's posted and most replies seem to point to a virus so
I did a full virus check and nothing found.

Can anyone help??

Sue,

Copy and paste the complete error shown in the Event Log.

How do I view the error messages registered in Event Log?:

BTW, the problem might be caused by a context-menu handler.
