Windows Explorer and My Computer no longer display drive g:, an external usb
hard drive. Device Manager and all other system information folders show it
to be active. This is my backup device and I need to access it to backup my
system. Why don't Explorer and My Computer show it, and what is needed to
get the drive to be displayed again?

do any other usb devices work plugged into the same port.

what have you done to the system since the last time you used the drive.

lots of time removing the USB Hubs in device manager.
shutting down the computer for 3-5 minutes
powering it back up and allowing the usb ports to be installed again.
then trying them. works.

You touch on my other problem. I installed a usb printer which is recognized
as a removable media device with designation f:, which was the original
designation of the external hard drive. The printer shows in Explorer and My
Computer as a drive. This is the first usb printer I have had, so I do not
if this is normal. I will try uninstalling the usb hubs. If you have any
other suggestions, I would appreciate it.
