When I bring up Windows Explorer and click on Local Drive(C:) in the left
pane, the word "Unspecified" in bold appears at the top of the right pane. Is
it supposed to be there? I've been using this new sysytem for a couple of
months now and don't recall seeing it before. What is it saying is
unspecified?
I'm a bit gun-shy right now because I just got a problem corrected. I have
only one partition on my hard drive (C:), a floppy drive (A:), a CD-ROM (D:),
and a CD-RW (E:). I had decided to change the letters of the CD drives to E &
F. Then I moved some of my personal applications and utilities from the
C:\Program Files folder to a new C:\My Programs folder. I used COA2 for the
reassignment tasks on some of the moves. I was saving System Restore points
as I progressed with my moves. Then I suddenly the computer froze up when I
did a reboot (to have the registry apply changes for the applications), and
the light on the CD-RW(F:) was flashing. The only way to break the freeze was
to shut down the power source. When I started the computer again, I got the
screen that gives options of Safe Boot, Normal Boot, etc. And then it
continued with a normal boot and everything was still there. I tried doing a
System Restore from a point before renaming the drives or moving apps, but
the machine went through the same thing when it tried to reboot so System
Restore could not complete. Again it let me boot normal and after much more
search and research, I was able to intall a copy of the registry that I had
saved to CD. I think I finally have everything in place now, and I have been
able to reboot without a problem, but have not tried a complete shut down.
So I'm very alert to anything that looks different or out of place, and I
just do not recall having seen this Unspecified on the numerous times that I
have clicked on the Local Drive(C:) drive. I need some reassurance, or some
help if it needs correcting.
Thanks much.

Yes, I did reboot and it went okay. But I know that a soft boot can be
different from a cold boot. So I'm afraid to turn off the computer before I
find out about this "Unspecified" at the top of the right pane in Windows
Explorer. Just afraid I still have something not right.
