Anyone know how to turn off the Links that now
appear in the XP version of Windows Explorer?

Drives and directories are now links and their
behavior is detremental to the way I work and
significantly different to all previous versions.

If I could just turn off this "feature" or
bug as I call it, that would be great.

Dave.

In Tools > Options enable "Show Windows classic folders".

You wrote a three paragraph post, what links are you
questioning about? I have the latest version of Explorer
and don't see any "links".

Hi Dave,
I had to reply for no other reason than we have the same name.

AFAIK you can't turn off the "links" if you mean the way "special folders"
are pointed to.You can move special folders like "My Documents" but XP
retains references to old location which then refers to new location. This
can make Explorer file browsing look messy and confusing but it also has
its' conveniences.

Also done by right clicking Start button and selecting Properties>Start menu
tab. Then Select Classic. This removes hyperlinks.

These are the first thing I do whenever setting up a
new machine and I did this before posting here.

Never had an XP machine before, this is my work
machine, perhaps the setting isn't being saved
do to permissions? They have locked down much
of the C Drive.

Dave.
