Windows Explorer is lost!

Guest

I cannot locate Windows Explorer off the start button, or anywhere else for
that matter. If I search "all files and folders" for it, I get two search
results, both of which, when I open them, lead to the "My Documents" folder.
I'm guessing I have a shortcut pointing to the wrong place. I have no idea
how this might have happened. Any idea how I can locate Windows Explorer?
Thanks in advance.

What are you searching for?
Have you tried searching for Explorer.exe ?
(Normally %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe)

Alter the Properties of your shortcut if necessary.

what you can do temporarily is
go to start>run>explorer.exe.
if your document comes up, in address bar type in your URL and it will
switch to internet Explorer.
Thanks

Hi,

Right click the start button, click on "explore".
Hit the Windows Key + E.
Doubleclick "My Computer".
Click start/run, type explorer.exe and click "ok".

All of the above methods should open Windows Explorer.

Thanks for the response Alan. I'm trying to use windows explorer to drag and
drop files, but I cant find WE. Searching for explorer.exe brings up the "My
Documents" folder. Can you elaborate on how to "alter the properties of your
shortcut"? I think that's the problem, that when I look for WE, I get My
Docs instead.

Thanks for your response Reza. No, if I hit start/run/explorer.exe, I get the
MY Documents folder, not Windows Explorer. Any other ideas?

Thanks for the response Rick.
#1 gets me a window headed "Start Menu". Windows explorer does not appear.
#2 gets "My Computer". Can't find WE
#3 same results as #2
#4 gets "My Documents" folder
Any ideas?

Press the Windows and E keys at the same time.

On my machine, EXPLORER.EXE is in the Windows install directory
(probably C:\WINDOWS on your machine). If you really want to create a
shortcut,
%windir%\explorer.exe
will do it unless there's something wrong with your system. But in
that case you'd have noticed -- you wouldn't have a Start button or
any desktop icons, for instance.

Those _are_ all Windows Explorer. The title bar varies according to
what directory (oops, "folder") is currently selected.

What _exactly_ are you trying to do, here? I think it will be less
confusing if you answer in terms of what task you want to do, rather
than using the term "Windows Explorer" which seems not to mean what
you think.

Right-click the shortcut and select Properties.

In the search, I am sure you see explorer.exe and you can see where it
is.
You are then launching explorer.exe (Windows Explorer) and you get it
starting at My Documents. You are then using Windows Explorer.
You have not lost it at all. You do not have a problem. That is what
you want and I suspect every other method is also what you want.
Navigate to the folder you want to manipulate.

You now have opened Windows Explorer 4 times....Click view/explorer
bar/folders to get what you are thinking about.

I think "Nutcase" has hit the nail on the head with "Click view/explorer
bar/folders".

I also think Ddoubleu would be happier still if someone can point out how to
make a shortcut, specifically, "Windows Explorer" in Start/ All programs.

Actually, every time you open and see "My Documents", that's explorer
running. :)

I think you want to see the folder view on the left hand side, correct?
Here's what you need to do to get it back on your screen:

With the "My Documents" view open (since this is explorer running), click
View, select Explore bar, then select Folders. Now you will have the folder
view on your explorer.

Please let me know if this is what you wanted, or if there was something
else you were expecting. I'm glad to help! :)
