windows explorer freezing

When I am in windows explorer and I click on anything my computer freezes.
It can be any where from a few seconds to a few minutes. It doesn't happen
at any particular time or doing anything specific. I do have this problem
elsewhere but the biggest issue is when I am in windows explorer. Even
opening windows explorer can be a long wait. I have windows 2000
professional service pack 4. I have run spyware progs but I can find
nothing. Please advise. Thank you.

check your DNS settings

also try
Start
Run
type
CMD
click OK
<CMD Window opens>
in the CMD window
type
net use * /delete
press enter
answer y
to any questions it asks

This will delete any network share mappings you may have and may resolve the
problem
