Windows Explorer Folder Window will not open

On my XP notebook, Windows Explorer does not open correctly.
Regardless how I start it (doubleclick on file or folder, rightclick
or start|programs...) It opens for a second showing the correct
content and then closes again without error message. It even happens
when I try to open the control panel window.
IE6 opens correctly, but for most URLs, it shows the content only for
a second then I get a white, empty IE window.

Found and corrected the problem. It was caused by a Trojan Horse: SP.EXE
Starting in safe mode and deleting windows\sp.exe helped.
