When I right click on a folder in windows explorer and
select the properties option, the size, numer of files
and subfolders displays 0. It used to display the size
and contents of the folder; the size and number of sub
folders. Can someone help me figure out how to fix
this option so that I can get accurate values?

Thank you!

Is the file protected by the system. This is what I think
normally happens if the folder/file is used by the OS or
is protected by Windows File Protection system. If you
can't open it, then this could be the case, which I believe
is normal.

No, they are not system folders. It's occurring on all
of my folders. For example, a folder that I use to put
various recipes into, that includes sub folders for
dishes, such as deserts, appetizers and the like. I
track the properties so that when the folder is large
enough I can burn it onto a cd.

Any other ideas of why the properties will not display
any values?

I can't find anything on this issue so it might be best to at least rule out
some possibilities.

Make sure you antivirus software is up to date and run a scan on your
system. Download, install and run Ad Aware:
www.lavasoftusa.com

If you come up clean, assuming this is a recent issue, try using System
Restore to take you back to a time prior to when this began. Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

Be leery of ad-aware from lavsoft, they have issues with spying that
was the reason that they were thrown out of COAST (Consortium of
Anti-Spyware Technology Vendors) I heard it from a trackware company
in France.

It tends to remove important files too and make your system not boot
up.

First, Lavasoft was not thrown out of COAST, Lavasoft resigned:
http://www.lavasoft.de/news/20031216.shtml

What you heard is continued bad blood and bad word of mouth spread by
current COAST devotees.

Second, with regard to what Ad Aware removes, this is true of most such
products and of those products, Ad Aware is the least invasive.

That said, users can and are encouraged to contact Lavasoft if they have any
questions before removal and files can be quarantined as opposed to removed
until the user is able to determine the effects of removing.

While it should go without saying that when performing any such removal with
any application of this type you should always be well backed up, your point
is well taken in that regard but you also might want to look at the third
line in my signature. It's on every post I make on these boards and far
worse happens to users than a lot of what these spyware removal programs can
do. I'd point out, Ad Aware has an undo function as does the far more
aggressive Spybot. Of course, that's useless if the system won't boot.

In the future I will add the caution about being well backed up if using
such software but of all such products I've tested, Ad Aware is the least
aggressive and as such, the one that can be used with the greatest safety.

Hmm, not sure what would cause that problem, Lori. Are you you on
XP? Much more dependable system than those previous. If you haven't
already, do a thorough disk scan using "Check Disk" (Scan Disk for older
systems) and defrag. Clean off spyware.

Lori, Ronnie Vernon posted a suggestion for you in another thread. Have you
found that post yet? If not here is a cut and paste of his message:

This information is from a previous post by MVP Doug Knox to someone who
was experiencing this behavior.

"Click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Go to World Wide Web Publishing.
Double click this entry and select Stop. See if Folder properties can be
accessed. If so, restart the service and try again. If you can't access
folder properties after stopping and restarting the WWW service, go to
Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components and remove and reinstall Internet
Information Services."

This worked to resolve the problem in this case.
